WHAT IS OCR?

Endurance, strength, courage and community: what makes obstacle course racing special.

Obstacle Course Racing combines off-road running with walls, rigs, water, mud and carries. No course feels exactly the same – and that variety is at the heart of the sport.

More than a trail run

Running sections alternate with tasks that demand different skills. A wall requires technique and courage, a carry challenges strength and endurance, while a rig tests grip and concentration. Weather and terrain add another layer every time.

Who can take part?

Almost anyone who enjoys movement and a challenge. Beginners can start with short open waves and approachable obstacles. Experienced athletes may choose longer courses, technical rigs or competitive heats. The key is choosing a format that matches your current fitness.

  • Short courses are the easiest introduction to OCR.
  • Team starts reduce pressure and add shared motivation.
  • Competitive formats require technique, rules and focused training.
  • Obstacle rules, penalties and permitted assistance vary by organiser and start wave.

Why people return

OCR makes progress tangible. A wall that felt impossible in the first race can become routine in the next. The course also creates memorable moments: a helping hand, a shared carry or an entire team crossing the finish together.
